Norfolk Honey - Ken's Bees
Ken's Norfolk Mongrels
Ken first started keeping bees some fifteen years ago. He bought a nuc from
a local beekeeper initially for an observation hive that he had made for his
conservatory. From that first
colony Ken eventually filled his garden with hives of many types and sizes.
After a few swarms in his neighbors gardens it became clear to Ken that his ever
expanding apiary needed a new home and he purchased a piece of land just outside
Norwich to provide an apiary for his bees. That piece of land is Ken's main
apiary. Ken has two out apiaries now (2011).
As all of Ken's bees are from the
one original colony he bought in the first place it is easy for Ken to notice
a queen that is too feisty and out of line. As a result of selecting the better
queens to breed from his bees are easy to handel and good natured.
Ken's bees are on the dark side of the spectrum.
Most of Ken's bees are on Standard National frames although he does have several
top bar hives and a Warre hive. If you are looking for bees for a Top Bar hive
in Norfolk then Ken can supply as limited number of Top Bar nucs each year. If
the bees are for a horizontal top bar hive they can be supplied in a Top bar
nuc
box. If the bees are wanted for a vertical Warre top bar hive hive then they
can be supplied in a section.
